What we do in our Taekwondo lessons

We do a challenging style of Taekwondo created by the late Grandmaster Karel Van Orsouw, 9th degree. Our Taekwondo lessons in Cardiff and Caerphilly differ from other Taekwondo classes because we teach weapons forms and an extensive partner exercise program.

TRADITIONAL TULS

A Tul is a set of attacking and defending movements in a logical sequence to deal with imaginary opponents.

A Tul improves Taekwondo techniques and develops muscle, balance and breath techniques.

There are 24 Taekwondo Tuls which is symbolic of there being 24 hours in a day.

Our Chief Instructor has been successful in numerous Taekwondo tul competitions since 1995.

Weapons

We train with a weapons:

  • Dan-bong (a Korean wooden short stick with a looped cord on one end). There are two dan-bong tuls called Kwon-Moo Gun and Park-Jong Soo
  • Jung-bong (a stick with a width of around 3cm which reaches hip height from the floor) for 2nd degress.
  • Dan-Geom (knife with a blade that cuts on both sides and with a pummel for 3rd degrees and above.

Partner Exercises

There are around 25 partner series in total with 5 exercises for each series.

Each series focuses on a different aspect of Taekwondo training and includes leg techniques, hand techniques, jumping techniques and  stance changes.

Our third degree black belts demonstrating a variety of our set sparring series from beginner to 2nd degree to show how students progress through our syllabus over time.

SPARRING

We offer sparring training to students that wish to take part in competitions.

Whilst sparring is encouraged for an all-round training experience, we understand that sparring is not for everyone. Sparring is not a compulsory aspect of our Taekwondo training. Students that do no wish to spar do not have to.
